TCSJV Construction Mascot Design
Building bonds beyond construction.
TCSJV, a joint venture between Taisei (Japan) and China State Construction Engineering Corporation, was awarded the contract by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority to design and construct Riviera MRT station and tunnel as part of the Cross Island Line — Punggol Extension. This project notably involves Singapore’s largest-ever tunnel boring machine at 12.6 meters in diameter.
To mitigate the impact on the neighbourhood’s visual and community atmosphere, the mascots Tai Tai and Curtis were introduced. These friendly characters humanise the project, foster positive community engagement, and reinforce TCSJV’s commitment to safety, harmony, and thoughtful construction.

Character Turnaround

The name Tai Tai is short for Taisei, the Japan counterpart of the joint venture project. While the panda is a national emblem of China which also represents China State Construction.
Pandas are often seen as a symbol of peace, harmony, and friendship. Given their global popularity, a panda mascot can resonate with diverse audiences, making it an inclusive choice that transcends cultural boundaries. Pandas are also widely associated with positive attributes such as kindness, playfulness, and gentleness. By incorporating a panda mascot into TCSJV, it creates a positive brand image that lightens the impact of the construction look in the estate as it will be a massive project.
The safety helmet and boots on Tai Tai emphasise that TCSJV prioritise safety. Safe working environments contribute to improved productivity and efficiency of the brand. Tai Tai also carries a stylish and trendy sling bag that shapes after the Riviera MRT train, making him relatable and endearing.
The name Curtis is formed using the initials of both companies, C (China State Construction) and T (Taisei). The name also means “courteous” and “polite” which is the key message of the creation of this mascot.
The beaver represent TCSJV reflecting craftsmanship, attention to detail, and expertise in construction.
Beavers are also social animals that work together in colonies to build their dams and lodges. They collaborate, communicate, and coordinate their efforts to accomplish large-scale construction projects. Using the beaver highlights the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and synergy within the construction industry, emphasising the collective effort required to complete successful construction projects.
The beaver is also chosen as the animal’s colour is closely related to the soil and tunnel, reflecting the Riviera MRT tunnel project.
